Boars Head to Mill End Circular Walk
Boars Head P.H.
Waterfoot Commumity War Memorial
This walk is best in the dry as cobbles are slippery when wet. It could be a little muddy in the trees after Tricketts Memorial Park. It contains a steep section on a good path.
The walk is about 20-30 minutes.
Start from the Boars Head.
- 1) As you're looking at the Boars Head, turn left to a crossroads.
- 2) Cross straight over and go down the cobbled Old St. Take note of the old houses on your left - these are some of the oldest buildings in Newchurch.
- 3) After the end of the cobbles, keep following Old St. St Peters church will be on your left as you pass it.
- 4) At the T junction with Turnpike, turn right. Stay on the right side of the road. Turnpike curves round to the right then joins Burnley Road East.
- 5) Very soon you will come to a shelter with a beautiful mosaic made by the White Horse project.
- 6) Just past the shelter, turn into Tricketts Memorial Park and walk around the grassed area. Tricketts Memorial Park is maintained by local Civic Pride volunteers.
- 7) As you near the main gate back to the main road, there is a war memorial. Take the path behind the memorial which takes you behind a terrace of houses and through the woods.
- 8) Follow this path until you get to the end of the cottages where the path splits, go straight ahead on the lower path to the T junction with a brick path. This is The Heys, and the lower section is steep.
- 9) Turn right (uphill) on The Heys and after a short while the gradient gets less and the path turns from brick to cobbles. You will see St Nicholas church ahead of you to the right.
- 10) The Heys joins Church Lane. Cross the road and turn right to keep going uphill to get back to your start point.
