To be sold by Auction, all that Public House,situated in Old Street, Newchurch, known by the sign of the "Blue Bell Inn", with a brew house, stables, outbuldings, large yard and other appurtanances thereto belonging, and now in the occupation of Mr. Richard Lord as yearly tenant. (sold to Mr. Baxter for £1,736). Forty years ago the property was sold for £400.

William Heyworth and James Ashworth were summoned for having assualted Richard Lord, of the Blue Bell Inn, at Newchurch and breaking his leg. Ashworth was fined £5 and costs.
Bacup Times 23-01-1875
Mr Richard Lord, Blue Bell Inn, Newchurch, Gave a tea-partyto upwards of 100 children. After tea they engaged themselves in the clubroom playing games. At about 8 o'clock the room was filles with the childrens parents. Besides the tea Mr Lord treated the children and parents to oranges, apples, tarts, spice raspberry and sherry wine. Several children recited ans sung pieces.

The death occured on the 16th inst, at the Blue Bell Inn, Newchurch, of Charles Bradley, aged 25 years.
Bacup Times 07-03-1891
The Blue Bell Inn, Newchurch, was almost destroyed by fire early on Tuesday morning. The flames spread with great rapidity and and the occupiers had to fly for their lives.
The building is insured* but the stock and furniture are not covered, and the loss to the landlord is very considerable. The Clarkeholme contingent of the volunteer fire brigade rendered such gallant service the two or three of the rooms remained almost intact.
*Total loss of the landlords property was £300, the building was insured for £800.
Bacup Times 13-03-1897
A child named John Haworth, aged 2 years and 7 months, son of Mr. Haworth, the landlord of the Blue Bell Inn, Newchurch, died from the result of scalds. It appears that a servant girl kept a bucket of boiling water in the lobby, which the child upset, sustaining scolds on the lower part of the body from which it sucumbed.

The death took place on Saturday morning of Mr Robert Plane, of the Blue Bell Hotel, he was 71 years of age. He had resided with his son, James Edward Plane.
