Minutes from NVCA meeting
Held at Boars Head, Newchurch

• 2 Previous Minutes

- RG to chase Alyson Barnes re Right To buy – check emails.
- Apparently Ramsbottom are pursuing a Village Green status for a fenced off – keep an eye on the progress of this project.
- Pursue Free Press re including Newchurch events rather than being lumped in with Waterfoot – forward our events and activities to them.
- Minutes accepted and agreed

• 3 New Kirk Fair Update

• Date 10th May
• Got OK from Church to be involved but keep New Kirk Fair title. Iain and Jo to liaise with them closely on this.
• Plan A - to have everything in the garden unless it really rains in which case we could go to the Church (Plan B). Make a decision on the day…..
• Evening activities in the pub
• Table top sale on the pavement outside the houses/pubs? RG to check with RBC about this (give pavement width and stall width).
• Put signs and balloons up the week before hand to notify passing traffic (Iain can get banners made at school – ‘New Kirk Fair; but with no date so we can add this yearly as required)
• Contact the Free Press the week before to put it in the press
• Contact Waterfoot Forward as well to promote it.
• Julia in charge of boards/signs/second banner.
• ‘What’s on in your area’ – everyone to see where else we can promote it.
• Promote also via website Facebook and twitter - Iain to look into this and getting them set up, and all linked.
• Bunting – Shelley’s cellar and does Natalie have some?
• Newchurch School have set up a school choir – Simone to see if they want to sing some songs on the day
• Iain’s neighbour has a dance school – do they want to get involved?

• WI at Methodist Church, plus Brownies/Guides etc – do they want a stall to promote their activities? Maybe sell a few things like badges?
Make sure it’s a coordinated approach so we don’t have 3 tombolas and 8 cake stalls. Stalls to include:
- Tombola
- Bottle stall (wrapped bottles, some empty, some cordial, some wine etc)
- And egg shell one for children (whole eggshells and half shells in sand)
- Cake stall
- Book stall
- Bran tub
- Raffle (make sure we get contact details so we don’t have unclaimed prizes)
- Facepainting sessions
- St Johns ambulance? First Responders/Mountain rescue
- Tours up the Church Tower? Ask for donations on behalf of the Church. Next Church meeting is 27th feb and Jo can put our suggestions forward.
- Plus others that the Church and other groups might put forward RG to be main point of contact for update emails to coordinate responses from other groups and updates as to where we are up to. Iain to set an ‘Newkirk fair’ email address and forward it on to me RG to contact Vincent Hindley from RBC re New Kirk Fair event – licence needed?

• 4 Bowling Green/Planning Update

- RG to contact planners re Bluebell re change of use? Any application in the pipelines?
- Do we need a group mandate to object to future applications that might negatively impact the village that we can object as a group? Eg for parking issues etc.
– ALL IN FAVOUR. Include updates on AGM.
- Be on the ball with Highways/Cllr Barnes if future applications come in affecting.

• 5 AOB

- LCC Member Grants – large planters coming into the village? On grass verges? Nicely maintained by us. Recycled plastic ones? Jo to find out who made the ones at Stubbins and how much they were?
Garden tidy up:
- Sat 29th March 2pm for an hour
- Sat 26th April 2pm for an hour
- Thursday 8th May 6.30pm onwards – last minute tidy up before the event then pub for tea (curry night)
Council’s website – WW1 poppies – Simone to contact Parks team re doing the verge near the garden with poppies.
Google Unst bus shelter for ideas of how to improve our shelter and area
Staghills Woodland – can we do anything with this? As Proffitts? With support from NVCA? Or easy blue/green mountain bike trails in the woods? Or orienteering (Pendle Forest orienteering use Newchurch School). RG to contact Tony Lund.
Separate raffle for fundraise for defibrillator? – set up an official licenced raffle with cash prizes to fundraise for defibrillators. Simone has contacted Paddy re how many residents in Newchurch so we can put this on posters and leaflets (if every resident put a pound in a bucket we could easily afford one). Simone has a raffle licence for Guides so would be willing to ask for another licence if needed. Could secure it to a post outside the garden Get First Responders details and forward our ideas to them.
Cloughfold Rec – fought to keep it as open space not housing. Got grants for kids’ stuff but is now a mess. No kids use the park at all nowadays. Used by Rossendale Valley Riding Club one day per month. RG to contact Kathy Fishwick.
