2. Community Garden

The garden is looking quite tidy at the moment, although we have lost a few plants due to the lack of water. The group was reminded about the weekly gardening sessions every Thursday from 6:30pm especially for those jobs more easily done by more than one person. Garden jobs can be anything from a few minutes weeding to planting new plants or doing a bit of dead heading – basically anything to keep the garden nice.

Questions were asked about the park benches which everyone is keen to see installed. Julia suggested that Geoff and / or Calum could build any required support brackets.
ACTION – Simone to update the group with the current status and delegate where necessary.

3. Staghills Play Area

A ‘permission to improve the play area’ has finally been received and thanks must go to Paddy Marriott for his help with this. Next step is to contact Proffits to arrange for the process to begin.
ACTION – Simone to update the group with the current status and delegate where necessary.

4. Planning Application

The group was thanked for all the comments placed on the council web site concerning the application. Natalie commented that some of her hand delivered documents had not been scanned and uploaded by the council, and also that the response from Sport England was likely to arrive too late which is unfortunate.

It was also noted that due to the nature of the council web site, carefully prepared Word documents (for example) couldn’t be uploaded and a lot of the context was lost due to the fact that only text could be input directly on the web site.

5. Poppies

The following additional people agreed to fund a poppy for the village.
Iain & Jo
Danny A & Cherry H
Julia B
Shirley & Ron S
Wilf D

ACTION - Iain is to speak to St Nicholas Church to see if they would like one.
ACTION – Volunteer needed to collect the money and get the poppies from Christine (contact details on web site).

Iain also made everyone aware of a 3 hour bell ringing session scheduled for the 12th November to commemorate Armistice Day. Volunteer bell ringers are needed !

Any Other Business

1. Jo offered to make the knitting pattern for poppies for Armistice Day available – ACTION – Jo and Danny to get this onto the web site.
2. Danny suggested that regular events happening in and around Newchurch should be put on the web site as old notices tend to get replaced in the notice board. Examples are the singing group, the over 55s, the orienteering meets, rainbows and brownies etc. This was agreed to be a good idea, so ACTION - All to inform Danny of details of any regular local events (what it is, when, where, who to contact) then the web site to be updated.

Date of next meeting – 13th Sept although this may be brought forward to prepare for the Kirk Fair.
